Adani Power Limited is an Indian power generation company that was established in 2006. The company is a subsidiary of Adani Group, which is one of India’s largest conglomerates and has interests in various sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and logistics.
In 2009, Adani Power started the construction of a 4,620 MW thermal power plant in Mundra, Gujarat. This plant is one of India’s largest power projects and was completed in 2012. The company also built a 1,320 MW supercritical thermal power plant in Kawai, Rajasthan, which was commissioned in 2013.
Adani Power has also ventured into renewable energy and has set up solar power plants in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. The company’s total installed capacity as of March 2021 is 12,450 MW, with 10,440 MW from thermal power and 2,010 MW from renewable energy sources.
The company faced challenges in the form of regulatory hurdles and tariff issues, especially for its Mundra plant. However, Adani Power has overcome these challenges and has emerged as one of the leading power generation companies in India. The company is continuously expanding its operations and has plans to increase its renewable energy capacity to 10,000 MW by 2025.
