Al Hilal was established on October 16, 1957, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is the oldest club in the country and one of the most successful in the Middle East.
The club's formation was initiated by Prince Abdul Rahman bin Saud, a member of the Saudi Arabian royal family. The club was named Al Hilal, which means "the crescent" in Arabic, and its colors were chosen to be blue and white, which represented the colors of the Saudi Arabian flag.
Al Hilal's first official match was against another Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ittihad, in 1958. The match ended in a 3-3 draw, and Al Hilal finished their first season as runners-up in the league.
Al Hilal's first major success came in 1976 when they won their first Saudi Arabian League title. They went on to win the league title five more times in the 1970s and 1980s.
In the 1990s, Al Hilal witnessed a period of great success under the leadership of Italian coach, Fabio Cannavaro. The club won 25 domestic and international trophies during this decade, including three Asian Club Championships and three Gulf Club Championships.
The club continued to dominate in the 2000s, winning six domestic league titles and three more Asian Club Championships.
Today, Al Hilal is one of the top clubs in Asia, with a large and loyal fan base. They have won a total of 66 domestic and international titles and are recognized as one of the most successful clubs in the Middle East.
