The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper located in Downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the tallest building in the world, standing at 828 meters (2,717 feet) tall and was completed in 2010. The history of the Burj Khalifa dates back to the early 2000s when the building launched as an ambitious project to attract tourists to Dubai. Conceptualization The Burj Khalifa project was initiated in 2003 as a joint venture between Emaar Properties, Dubai Holding Company, and Samsung Engineering & Construction. It was originally named the Burj Dubai, after the Emir of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and was designed by Adrian Smith as part of the Chicago-based architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
